Georgia is one of the easiest countries in the world for the official registration of marriage for foreign nationals. There is no residency requirement, minimal bureaucracy, and a fast processing time. A Georgian marriage certificate is recognized in most countries around the world.
Required Documents
To register a marriage in Georgia, you will need:
- Passports of both spouses (originals + copies)
- Birth certificates with an apostille and a notarized translation into Georgian or English
- Certificates of marital status (confirming that you are not currently married) — from a civil registry office or consulate
- Divorce certificates (if applicable) with an apostille
- Two witnesses with valid identification documents
What Is an Apostille
An apostille is a special seal that certifies the authenticity of a document for use abroad. The apostille is issued in the country where the document was originally issued:
- Russia: at regional offices of the Ministry of Justice
- Ukraine: at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
- Belarus: at the Ministry of Justice
- Kazakhstan: at the Ministry of Justice
Processing time for an apostille ranges from 5 to 30 business days. We recommend starting the process 2–3 months before the wedding.

All documents must be translated into Georgian or English by a certified translator. We work with trusted translators in Tbilisi who can complete the translation within 1–2 business days. The cost of translating a single document ranges from $15 to $30.
